Section 1: Overview

Introduction

This website is operated by My Grandfather's Cat. Throughout the site, the terms “we”, “us” and “our” refer to My Grandfather's Cat. My Grandfather's Cat offers this website, including all information, tools and services available from this site to you, the user, conditioned upon your acceptance of all terms, conditions, policies and notices stated here.

Please read these Terms of Service carefully before accessing or using our website. By accessing or using any part of the site, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to all the terms and conditions of this agreement, then you may not access the website or use any services. If these Terms of Service are considered an offer, acceptance is expressly limited to these Terms of Service.

Conditions of Use

By visiting our site, using our service and/ or purchasing something from us, you engage in our “Service” and agree to be bound by the following terms and conditions (“Terms of Service”, “Terms”), including those additional terms and conditions and policies referenced herein and/or available by hyperlink. These Terms of Service apply to all users of the site, including without limitation users who are browsers, vendors, customers, merchants, and/ or contributors of content.

You can review the most current version of the Terms of Service at any time on this page. We reserve the right to update, change or replace any part of these Terms of Service by posting updates and/or changes to our website. It is your responsibility to check this page periodically for changes. Your continued use of or access to the website following the posting of any changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.

Our website, application forms and store is hosted on Squarespace Inc. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and offer our service to you.

In this document, 

  • those who use our service will be referred to as “clients”, 

  • their pets will be referred to as “the animal”, “animal” or “adoptable”, 

  • those who find an animal through our service will be referred to as “adopting family”

  • those who make a financial contribution towards our organization will be referred to as “donors”

  • those who purchase our merchandise will be referred to as “customers”.

Section 2: Terms of Service for Clients and/or Adopting Families

Introduction

The mission of My Grandfather’s Cat is to assist seniors and/or terminally ill people in finding second forever homes for their pets that they can no longer care for due to health related circumstances, including but not limited to, moving to an assisted living facility, decline in health, terminal diagnosis. The goal of our service is to find a suitable adopting family that meets the needs of the animal and requirements of the client.

Location

My Grandfather’s Cat is a virtual service and does not have a physical location. We offer our virtual service in all provinces and territories in Canada.

Client Criteria

Clients of My Grandfather’s Cat must meet the following criteria (“our criteria”, “the criteria”) to use our service. My Grandfather’s Cat reserves the right to alter this criteria or make exceptions at any time. The client must be truthful in the information they provide to My Grandfather’s Cat.

- The client and animal must be located in Canada
- The client must be a senior OR have been diagnosed with a terminal illness
- The animal must be owned by the client
  OR the client must have legal capacity to make decisions for the animal I.E. power of attorney
- The reason the client is choosing to rehome the animal must be health related I.E. moving to an assisted living facility, decline in health, terminal diagnosis
- The animal must have housing provided by the client
- The animal must be sprayed or neutered prior to using our service

Declining Services to Clients

The client must be truthful in the information they provide to My Grandfather’s Cat. My Grandfather’s Cat reserves the right to not move a client through the interview process for any reason, including by not limited to, a lack of resources (i.e. availability of volunteers, budget), the client does not have the best interest of the animal in mind, threats, harassment and bullying. 

Communications

Initial communication with clients will be completed via our adoptable application form (“the form”). The form should be submitted by the client themselves. My Grandfather’s Cat will contact the client via phone or email to complete the initial interview. Upon completion of the interview, My Grandfather’s Cat will determine if the client meets our criteria and if we will provide our service to them. 

Accessibility

My Grandfather’s Cat is a virtual service. We primarily communicate with the client and adopting family via phone and email, but are happy to communicate in a different way if necessary to ensure our service is accessible for all. 

Housing of Animals

My Grandfather’s Cat does not provide housing for animals. Our goal is to keep the animal with the client and find a suitable adopting family.

Relationship with Volunteer

The client will work with a volunteer of My Grandfather’s Cat to facilitate the adoption. While all our volunteers are well trained, My Grandfather’s Cat cannot control or direct what people and others do or say, and we are not responsible for their actions. If the client is unsatisfied with their volunteer, they can contact the Executive Director of My Grandfather’s Cat and a new volunteer will be assigned.

Client Information

The client will work with My Grandfather’s Cat to create a profile for the animal. The animal's profile will be posted on My Grandfather’s Cat social media channels and website, and will be sent to our email list. My Grandfather’s Cat will only include information in this profile approved by the client, all additional information provided from the client to My Grandfather’s Cat will remain confidential. 

Adopting Family Criteria

Adopting families must reside in Canada. An adopting family must inquire about an animal via the email listed on the animal’s profile. The adopting family must complete an interview via phone with My Grandfather’s Cat and provide the information requested from the client. The adopting family must be truthful in the information they provide to My Grandfather’s Cat.

My Grandfather’s Cat reserves the right to not move an adopting family through the interview process for any reason, including by not limited to, the adopting family does not meet the needs of the animal, threats, harassment and bullying. 

Choice of Adopting Family

My Grandfather’s Cat will interview an adopting family before sending their information to the client. The client is responsible for interviewing the adopting family in the matter they see fit, including but not limited to, a phone interview and in-person interview. The client is responsible for choosing an adopting family from the list provided from My Grandfather’s Cat.

While we work to create a process that is safe for our clients, My Grandfather’s Cat is not responsible for the choice of the adopting family, and we do not control or direct what people and others do or say, and we are not responsible for their actions or conduct.

The adoption of an animal is an agreement between the client and the adopting family. My Grandfather’s Cat simply assists in finding families, the adoption is a formal agreement between the two parties.

Health of the Animal

My Grandfather’s Cat will be forthcoming to the adopting family with all information on the animal, including known health conditions, that is given to us by the client, but we cannot guarantee the information we receive. We do not control or direct what people and others do or say.

Transportation

My Grandfather’s Cat does not provide transportation for the animal between the client and the adopting family. Transportation, and all related expenses, must be arranged by the two parties.

Service Guarantee

While we will do everything in our power to find an adopting family that is suitable for the client and the animal, we cannot make any guarantees that we will find an adopting family that meets the needs of the animal and requirements of the client.

Right of Refusal

My Grandfather’s Cat, its employees and volunteers, reserve the right to refuse service to a client and/or adopting family for any reason, including but not limited to, they do not meet our criteria, a lack of resources, threats, harassment and bullying.

Termination of Relationship 

My Grandfather’s Cat, its employees and volunteers, reserve the right to end the relationship with the client at any time, including but not limited to, harassment, bullying, threats, lack of resources. The client and/or adopting family may also stop using our service during the process for any reason.

Fees

We offer our service free of charge. There will be no fee charged to the client for using our service or the adopting family from My Grandfather’s Cat.

Limits on Liability

My Grandfather’s Cat works to ensure we receive all necessary information from both the client and the adopting family, but we cannot guarantee the information we receive. We do not control or direct what people and others do or say, and we are not responsible for their actions or conduct.


Section 3: Terms and Conditions of Donations

Introduction

My Grandfather’s Cat is a registered Private Foundation in Canada. We accept online donations that help cover our operational expenses. All operationations and finances are overseen by our Executive Director, Angela Rafuse, who founded the organization. 

Monetary Donations

We only accept monetary donations via our online website. We do not accept donations made by cash and/or cheque, as we do not have a physical location or the resources to process donations in this form.

Tax Receipts

My Grandfather’s Cat works with CanadaHelps to issue CRA compliant tax receipts for all online donations. Tax receipts are emailed via the email address the donor provides at the time of donation. A donor can request another copy of their tax receipt via email at hello@mygrandfatherscat.ca or by contacting CanadaHelps.

Donor Information

My Grandfather’s Cat collects the information the donor provides at the time of donation and stores it in the CanadaHelps database. We will not share or sell this information at any time.

In-Kind Donations

My Grandfather’s Cat is a virtual service and does not have a physical location, therefore we are not able to accept in-kind donations. I.E. pet food, pet carries, pet beds.

Communication

My Grandfather’s Car will only contact the donor as per their communication preferences. The donor can change their communication preferences at any time by emailing hello@mygrandfatherscat.ca

Annual Report

My Grandfather’s Cat will provide an annual report once a year to show transparency with both finances and the number of clients who used our service.
