how to transition your cat to a new food

Whether you have made the decision to change your cats food, or its been recommended by a veterinarian, your cat may not love this change at first. Here are a few easy ways to help with the transition.

Mix it Up

The easiest way to transition your cat into eating a new food is by gradually adding the food into the current food. Each day, add a little more of their new food until you’ve switched their diet gradually.

Keep it Separate

If you are switching from wet to dry food, you can gradually introduce new food using different dishes. If you mix wet and dry food, it may become unappealing to your cat. Instead, gradually transition by giving them a little more wet food and a little more dry food every day (or visa versa!)

Be Patient

It’s important to never force the new diet. Be patient and take time transitioning your cats food unless your veterinarian advises differently. If you have more than one cat, make sure you’re monitoring how much each cat is eating during the transition to make sure everyone is becoming accustomed to their new food.
