cocoa’s story

When her senior human went into palliative care, beautiful Cocoa was in need of a second forever home. Knowing that she wouldn’t get along with his pets, her son selflessly reached out to My Grandfather’s Cat to see if he could find the best second forever home for Cocoa in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Working with our volunteer, Sarah, they wrote a profile for Cocoa and sent it out to MGC’s audience. The community couldn’t resist her grumpy face and more than 30 families applied to give her a home. During the process, her human passed away, but the abundance of applications provided comfort for her son that there was a home out there for Cocoa.

Within the week, he chose Laura and her husband. The couple were empty-nesters in the area looking to add another senior cat to their home as they loved the company of animals — and Laura had successfully converted her husband into a cat person. Cocoa settled in quickly and is now part of the family.
