andy and bam bam’s story
In late November 2021, Jordana’s senior mom was diagnosed with dementia. While the disease was at the beginning stages, they both realized she wasn’t going to be able to care for her two beloved 40-pound Maine Coon cats, Andy and Bam Bam much longer. That’s when she contacted My Grandfather’s Cat to find a second forever homes for the boys in Toronto, Ontario.
She began working with our volunteer, Katie, to write Andy and Bam Bam’s profile and send it to the MGC community in early December, but as it was the middle of the holiday season, they didn’t receive any applications. In January, the team reposted their profile hoping they would receive applications, but they still didn’t.
Over the next three months, Katie worked with our founder, Angela, to keep their profile top of mind. They were reposted countless times and, thanks our kind donors, the team was able to invest more than $500 in ads to promote their post. Angela even appeared on CTV Toronto Morning Live to get the word out about the boys. While they began to receive a couple of inquires, a family that could meet the boys’ needs still wasn’t found.
The MGC community noticed the boys hadn’t been adopted yet and became just as invested as Katie and Angela were. Everyday, MGC received messages asking if a second forever home was found for the boys. Even though months had passed, and their senior humans health continued to decline, the MGC team never gave up hope.
Finally, in March 2022, an incredible woman applied to be their home. She was the perfect fit and was chosen to be their second forever home. In April, she picked them up and it was announced to the MGC community that the boys were officially adopted and settled into their second forever home.
This was our longest adoption to date. We want to say a special thank you to our volunteer, Katie, who worked tirelessly to make this adoption happen. This adoption wouldn’t have been possible without her dedication and compassion for finding animals the best second forever homes.
