Charlie and Toby
When Charlie and Toby’s senior human was hospitalized and could no longer return home, her social worker was tasked with surrendering them to a shelter. The social worker knew how loved they were and wouldn’t do well in a shelter, so she went to her client’s home every day to care for them and contacted My Grandfather’s Cat.
She began working with our volunteer, Melanie, to find these sweet boys a second forever home in the Toronto area. Melanie had previously interviewed a couple named Barb and Merv for another adoptable and knew they were looking for a bonded pair, so she reached out to the couple to see if they’d be interested.
As soon as Barb and Merv saw the photos of the boys, they were in. After speaking with both Melanie and the social worker, they were chosen to be their second forever family. This was just weeks before Christmas, so Barb and Merv set up two cat beds under the tree as they waited to pick up Charlie and Toby.
As Barb and Merv were preparing their home, Charlie and Toby’s human passed away in hospital. The social worker was able to let her family know that the boys were going to a loving second forever home, giving them comfort amidst their grief.
Now, two months later, Charlie and Toby are thriving in their new home.
“The boys are doing really well. Each day brings a new first. They are very affectionate and love playing with their toys. We are very happy to have such sweet cats and give them lots of love. We are looking forward to the future with our two sweet boys. They have certainly added some spice to our quiet retired lives. Thank you to My Grandfather’s Cat and all its wonderful volunteers for helping us make this all possible.”
We’d like to say a special thank you to Natalie, the incredible social worker who went beyond her call of duty to care for her client and these sweet boys. We’re so grateful for you.
