sherry and hank’s story

Today, we want to share a story of how My Grandfather’s Cat provided comfort, but wasn’t the ultimate solution. This summer, a lady named Sherry was watching the evening news and saw a story about MGC. Living with terminal cancer, one of her biggest worries was what would happen to her best friend, Hank. So, she reached out to MGC the next day.

She spent an hour talking with our founder, Angela, explaining all of Hank’s quirks and the kind of home she wanted for him. Her love for Hank shined through her beautiful personality. Sherry mentioned that her daughter, Sarah, had a house full of pets of her own, and although she knew Sarah would happily take Hank, she wanted to make sure she had the best home ready for him.

After learning more about MGC, she decided the best option was to leave Hank to her Sarah, and if it wasn’t an ideal situation, she could work with MGC to find him a second forever home. When Sherry passed in October, Hank moved in with Sarah, her cat and two dogs. Much to Sarah’s surprise, Hank settled in perfectly. He is thriving in his new home and now has four new best friends.

While MGC might not be the first choice, we are always an option for seniors or terminally ill people and their families, even in the planned home isn’t a solution. Let's all honour Sherry’s memory today, who we know is smiling from high above the clouds.
