When a senior passed away, he left behind his 13-year old cat, Tobi. His son wasn’t sure how to find a home for Tobi, so he contacted his local veterinarian. The veterinarian knew a lady named Dominique who had just lost one of her senior cats, so she reached out to see if she was interested in adopting Tobi.
Dominique has a deep love for animals and a kind heart, so she decided to take Tobi in. She realized her current animals didn’t get along with Tobi, and she didn’t have a safe outdoor space for him to explore in like he was accustomed. So, she decided to contact My Grandfather’s Cat to find him a home that was a better fit.
She began working with our volunteer, Melanie, to find Tobi a second forever home in Alberta. Over the next few months, we received many applicants, she held interviews and meet and greets, but she wasn’t certain anyone was a fit for Tobi.
Meanwhile, Tobi settled into Dominque’s home. He began to get along with his siblings and Dominque found a safe way for him to spend time in her yard watching birds and squirrels. Dominque also fostered a kitten, who Tobi fell in love with and gave him a renewed sense of energy.
After a tough weekend, Dominque came home to Tobi and a list of perfect applicants in front of her. Through working with My Grandfather’s Cat, she realized she simply couldn’t part with him, and decided to officially adopt him. Unbeknownst to Tobi, he is now in his second forever home.
